Western Railway is moving ahead with plans to commission Mumbai’s fourth long-distance railway terminus at Jogeshwari, a project aimed at reducing pressure on the city’s most congested stations. Western Railway has confirmed that Phase I of the project is expected to become operational by June 2026, while the full facility is scheduled for completion by March 2027.
Western Railway is developing the new terminus at the existing auxiliary terminal yard in Jogeshwari, which currently functions only as a train stabling facility. Once passenger operations begin, the terminus will be integrated into Mumbai’s long-distance rail network and is expected to significantly ease congestion at Dadar, Mumbai Central, and Bandra Terminus.
Western Railway has approved an initial investment of ₹76.48 crore for the project. Under Phase I, the terminus will feature two passenger platforms and supporting infrastructure, allowing three long-distance trains to operate at the same time. This phase alone is expected to handle up to 12 pairs of trains daily.
Western Railway’s Phase II plan will further expand capacity by adding another platform, extra tracks, and operational facilities. Once fully completed, the Jogeshwari terminus is projected to handle around 24 long-distance trains each day.
