The scene, which is not from a crime scene but rather from a “rage room” in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, is of people smashing bottles and tube lights, scattering glass pieces everywhere as they went. Some were even seen standing with hammers in their hands, considering what to smash next. The first rage room in Mumbai is located in Sakinaka, a neighbourhood in the Andheri East suburb of Mumbai, and it gives visitors a safe place to let out their pent-up anger.
Rage rooms or fury rooms are spread over the world and act as an antidote to anger and stress. They are founded around the thought of catharsis – blowing off steam with purposeful physical exercise.
Rage rooms are also available in Hyderabad, Indore, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Depending on what you want to smash, you may crush bottles, cups, glasses, and tube lights. The experience costs between ₹ 500 and ₹ 1,500. Although it would cost more, there is also the option to smash a laptop or television. The goal is to provide them with momentary respite from everyday stress, according to the persons in charge of the establishment.
The rage room, which opened two months ago, offers a solution for people to break their mobile phones and household items in anger. The room, which costs between ₹ 1,000-1,500, allows visitors to break as many items as they want in half an hour. The room is open to visitors who want to vent their anger, those who want to have fun, and even those with their families.
A man who used a rage room to release anger from his business partner found it relieved him, but questions remain about its long-term effectiveness. Psychologist Dr. Sagar Mundra suggests addressing underlying issues causing recurring anger is crucial, as frequent visits may not resolve the issue.
