The controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia aka ‘Beer Biceps’ has taken a turn for the worse after Mumbai Police visited his home. They did this after complaints were filed against the YouTuber who featured on comedian Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent. His statements in the comedy show were deemed to be offending many, for which FIRs were registered against him in Mumbai and Assam.
Ranveer Allahbadia, with over 1 crore subscribers to his YouTube channel, was also in the middle of a controversy after he made an inappropriate comment towards the parents of a contestant. The backlash took no time to turn into a full-blown storm and politicos jumped in the bandwagon, one being Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, and another Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. Gogoi even requested PM Narendra Modi to exercise caution while giving nods to creators.
The response to the rising outrage came in the form of a public apology by Allahbadia. “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate—it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, and I had a lapse in judgment. I am truly sorry,” he said in a video message posted on X.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi called the comments derogatory and went beyond societal norms. She promised to bring the matter up in Parliament. “Content creators must self-regulate themselves. If they fail to do so, the state will have to step in,” she said.
The incident has brought back the controversy of liability of digital content creators. The singer, who was to appear on Allahbadia’s show, cancelled his show and requested the comedians to create more responsible content. It is reported that the video is taken down and investigations are on.
