Navi Mumbai was in the news for a major crackdown as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had busted a drug syndicate and had seized banned substances worth more than Rs 200 crore. Four people were arrested in connection with the case, an official from NCB’s Mumbai zonal unit on Friday.
It is thought that the syndicate is controlled by people from abroad and some of the drugs were imported from the United States through courier services, small cargo, and people carrying the consignment.
The operation was started last month when 200 grams of cocaine was seized from a parcel which was on its way to Australia. The investigation led the investigators to Navi Mumbai and the bust was made.
When searching the area, NCB officials recovered 11.54 kg of high quality cocaine, hydroponic weed and 200 packets (5.5 kg) of cannabis gummies, all valued at nearly Rs 200 crore. Their identities were also hidden using pseudonyms during the daily operations, according to the sources. For now, the authorities are focusing on identifying the other members of the syndicate — its upstream and downstream partners.
An effort is also being made to catch other people involved in this international drug network as the NCB steps up its surveillance and investigation to shut down the syndicate completely.
