Mumbai has seen a drop in temperatures for the second time this week. The city recorded its coldest day of the season so far. On Friday, the Santacruz observatory noted a minimum temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius. This marks Mumbai’s coldest November day since 2016. Earlier this week, a low of 16.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on November 26. That day was the coldest November temperature in eight years.
Many residents are feeling the chill. Friday’s minimum temperature was 3.6 degrees Celsius below the normal range for this time. While Santacruz reported the lowest temperature, Colaba noted a higher minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists explain that the cold is due to disrupted wind patterns. Northerly and north-easterly winds are affecting the region’s weather. These winds are responsible for the cooler temperatures in Mumbai and surrounding areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that temperatures will stay between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius until November 30. A slight increase in temperatures is expected after that. By December 4, temperatures may reach 22-23 degrees Celsius at night. However, there will not be a significant rise in daytime heat. Maximum temperatures are likely to stay between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the chill.
On Thursday, both suburban and island city stations recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. This indicates that while mornings and evenings are cooler, daytime temperatures remain stable. Residents should prepare for another week of cool weather, with moderate temperatures expected soon.
