Mumbai Level-IV blaze breaks out once again, this time at Bandra’s Link Square Mall, just a day after a major fire ravaged the Enforcement Directorate’s office. The latest incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a Croma showroom, where flames quickly escalated from a Level-III to a massive Level-IV blaze by 6:25 am.
The fire, first detected around 4:11 am, was confined to the basement but quickly spread, prompting the deployment of 13 fire engines, nine jumbo tankers, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). With thick smoke billowing across the premises, authorities turned to advanced technology—bringing in a fire-robot to assist exhausted firefighters battling the inferno.
Despite the swift response, criticism erupted. NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique accused the fire department of being ill-equipped and slow to act. He claimed the blaze could have been contained in the early stages if proper equipment and timely intervention had been used. “We’ve been here since 4 AM. A spark in the basement turned into a full mall fire because of inaction,” Siddique said.
This latest incident follows a string of recent fires in Mumbai. On Monday evening, a gas leak at Super Bakery in Byculla resulted in four burn injuries, while a Level-III blaze broke out Sunday at the Kaiser-I-Hind building in Ballard Estate, which houses the ED office. These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about fire safety preparedness in India’s financial capital.
Officials are yet to determine the exact cause of the Bandra blaze. Meanwhile, Mumbai remains on alert as firefighting teams continue to assess structural damage and prevent further flare-ups.
